The frenzy of Mont Saint-Michel
When we see it for the first time, Mont Saint-Michel is a dream. For Westerners, its majestic appearance can be reminiscent of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter saga; and for Asians, he recalls Hayao Miyazaki's animated film The Castle in Heaven. Approaching the islet, this magic disappears little by little to make way for a mass tourism typical of our century. Indeed, the many millions of visitors who walk its pavement each year make it one of the most visited tourist sites in France, and around the world.
Once inside, the consequences of this frenzy are easily noticed. It is very difficult to circulate among the crowd. You only come across restaurants, souvenir shops and so-called museums. They are famous for charging expensive benefits often mediocre.
What was a great place of pilgrimage since the 9th century is nothing more than a lucrative attraction.
