Black screen for French cinemas on March 14, 2020...

Exactly 100 days later, on June 22, 2020, the epics of Magyar princes, the chaotic journey of Dounia or the adventures of secret agents a little seductive can once again make us tremble, vibrate, laugh or cry in the dark rooms.

Cinema has accompanied us during this confinement, it has even helped us by allowing us to escape from our anxiety-provoking daily life. It has been salutary in keeping the children occupied. Thank you France 2 for these afternoons spent in front of classics of French cinema, thank you Arte for having rebroadcast Jim Jarmusch's UFO "Down by Law", thank you to the film festivals that broadcast their selection in streaming.

But the cinema experience is not only on a 55-inch screen, however backlit it may be! Cinema rhymes with "get out"! Going out to the cinema is both an art and a place.

Through this series made on the eve of the reopening of the cinemas, I wanted to highlight the Parisian theatres. There's the one we've often passed by without ever entering, the one we waited in front of nervously during our first dates, the one where we saw the latest Star Wars...

The series is called "American Night", like the cinematic technique that allows to shoot outdoor scenes in the daytime that are supposed to take place at night. Cinema is a fiction, just like these photos, where you don't have to try to reconstruct a reality. You have to let yourself be caught in front of these beautiful places that are the cinemas and imagine the scenes being played there.
