Parasurfing : when handicap rhymes with ability
Handisport is developing in all disciplines and surfing is no exception The French Surfing Federation and the National Association for Handi Surfing have been approved by the Ministry of Sports to supervise, develop and promote this discipline. In parallel, structures created by French handisurfers are emerging Driven by an inspiring desire to live, pushed by an ideal of equality, they are building their own weapons to gain recognition in their practice Together, they are trying to make their way in international competitions.
It is with this in mind that FAST French Adaptative Surfer Tank was born, in March 2020 An association based in Brittany, of which Katell Ropert is the president . "We found that for high-level parasurfing, there was nothing that existed Everyone trains on their own The goal, through this structure, is to find each other, to federate to move forward together Katell is vice world champion of parasurfing In 2017 following an operation, she lost a large part of her motor skills in her four limbs But her life did not stop With an overflowing energy, the 48 year old woman who knew nothing about surfing, discovered the discipline and experienced her first gliding sensations Surfing is not a therapy that gets me out of my handicapped condition I surf for the fun of it But as she likes to say "motivated paras", there are plenty of them.
Thomas, blind since he was 10 years old, or Ben, amputee of an arm, are all determined to be seen above all as sportsmen and not reduced to their handicap. The organization allows them to make their voice heard and to organize themselves. But resourcefulness and innovation allow the members to surpass themselves... "We adapt our own equipment, we organize ourselves for travel. We can even travel as a team of 100 handicapped people. A group synergy that has a name, pairemulation. "The team is preparing the first international parasurfing competition scheduled for September 17-18, 2021, but their ambitions go further ..." we are preparing the next generation for the next Olympics After the entry of surfing in 2021 in Tokyo, why not that of parasurfing in 2024.
