In Praise of Shadows
Le lundi 19 octobre 2026, la compagnie suédoise Below Zero présentait In Praise of Shadows au festival CIRCa, à Auch, dans le Gers.
Sur scène, sept artistes, dont deux musiciens, évoluent dans un univers inspiré des paysages sauvages du Grand Nord. Un immense drapé se métamorphose au fil des tableaux, évoquant tour à tour le ciel, la mer, les montagnes ou les glaciers.
Les corps s'élancent, s'entremêlent, se portent et défient la gravité dans des acrobaties d'une grande précision. Entre puissance et vulnérabilité, les mouvements explorent la confiance, l'équilibre et les relations humaines.
La musique, interprétée en direct par deux musiciens, occupe une place essentielle. Les mélodies folk nordiques se mêlent aux sonorités électro, accompagnant les performances dans une atmosphère tantôt mélancolique, tantôt intense.
Entre poésie visuelle, humour et prouesses acrobatiques, In Praise of Shadows explore les zones d'ombre de l'être humain, ses contradictions, ses fragilités et ses luttes intérieures.
À travers cette création, Below Zero propose une réflexion sur notre rapport à la nature et sur la beauté de l'imperfection. Un cirque contemporain où la performance physique devient aussi un langage sensible et profondément humain.
In Praise of Shadows
On Monday, October 19, 2026, Swedish contemporary circus company Below Zero presented In Praise of Shadows at the CIRCa Festival in Auch, southwestern France.
Seven performers, including two live musicians, bring to life a world inspired by the dramatic landscapes of the Nordic wilderness. A vast piece of fabric dominates the minimalist stage, transforming throughout the performance into skies, oceans, mountains and glaciers.
Bodies rise, intertwine, balance and defy gravity through precisely choreographed acrobatics. Between strength and vulnerability, the performers explore trust, human relationships and the fragile nature of balance.
Live music plays a central role in the production. Two musicians blend traditional Nordic folk melodies with electronic rhythms, creating an atmosphere that shifts between melancholy, intensity and moments of unexpected humour.
Combining visual poetry, spectacular physical performances and subtle comedy, In Praise of Shadows explores the darker aspects of human nature, our contradictions, vulnerabilities and inner struggles.
Through this creation, Below Zero reflects on humanity's relationship with nature and the beauty found in imperfection. A contemporary circus performance in which physical expression becomes a powerful and deeply human form of storytelling.
